Prepare a paper tube RFQ that suppliers can quote on the same basis. Use this worksheet to describe the product, distinguish usable space from outside dimensions, and agree what the sample must demonstrate.
1. Define the packaging job
- What goes inside: a bottle, sealed pouch, tin, cosmetic container or another product? Supply the actual product dimensions and weight, including its primary packaging.
- State whether the tube is presentation packaging, a retail outer pack or part of a shipping system. Identify any separate transit carton or cushioning.
- List each SKU, quantity per SKU, destination and intended packing method. Keep requirements separate from options you would like the supplier to propose.
2. Specify dimensions without ambiguity
- Identify internal diameter, usable internal height and external dimensions separately. Label units and dimension reference points on a drawing.
- Describe the closure arrangement, opening direction and required access. Ask the supplier to confirm space lost to the lid, base and any internal support.
- Provide an actual product or dimensioned reference for fit assessment. Agree clearance and tolerances on the approved drawing rather than copying a nominal size from another tube.
3. Describe materials and decoration
- Request the proposed construction, including paper layers, liner, coating, adhesive, end components and insert. Record any material alternatives separately.
- Provide artwork status, print areas, colour references and finishing priorities. Mark details where alignment, small text or surface appearance matter.
- For environmental or sourcing statements, specify the exact wording you want assessed and the supporting documents required. Brown paper appearance is not evidence of recycled content.
4. Agree sample and acceptance checks
- Check product fit, lid removal, reclosure, edges, print placement and the complete packed presentation using the intended contents.
- Agree which sample represents structure only and which represents production materials and finishing. Record differences before approval.
- Define handling and transit checks for the intended delivery conditions. A presentation tube alone should not be assumed to protect a shipment.
- Record the accepted drawing version, reference sample, tolerances and responsibility for approving changes.
5. Copy this into your quotation brief
- Product / primary pack: ___ · SKU quantities: ___ · Destination: ___
- Internal diameter / usable height / external size / units: ___
- Closure / insert / artwork / finishing: ___
- Required documents / sample checks / acceptance criteria: ___
- Target delivery date / packing method / quotation assumptions to confirm: ___
