FAQ2019-10-22T03:59:00+00:00
Should I use RGB or CMYK for my artwork? What does that mean?2019-07-16T10:13:51+00:00

Printing is done using CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black) inks, so if you supply your images in RGB (Red, Green, Blue) they will be converted to CMYK.

RGB (Red, Green, Blue) mode creates color by combining different colors of light. If you look very closely at a TV or computer monitor, every image is made of dots of Red, Green, and Blue lights. If you are creating an image to be displayed on a computer, TV, or lighted sign, RGB mode would be ideal for specifying your colors.

Alternatively, printing is done by combining Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and black inks to produce the colors you see. These inks on a corrugated or paperboard surface don’t have the intensity of a light source and are made of different combinations of colors.

RGB colors can appear dull or less saturated when converted and printed in CMYK. In some cases there is not an equivalent of an RGB color as CMYK, so color shifting can occur. This is why we strongly recommend that you provide your artwork as CMYK. If you do any needed conversions yourself, you can then adjust the colors after conversion to appear much closer to your desired result.

Can you print inside the box?2019-07-16T10:02:43+00:00

How should I set up a design for digital printing onto paperboard cartons?2019-07-16T10:00:49+00:00

There are a couple of industry-standard recommendations for paperboard cartons:

Choose a font that is 6 points or larger to ensure high-quality display (too small and the words may appear fuzzy).
Choose a thicker or bolder font over a skinny one so that no type gets lost in the printing process.
Place type at least 1/8-inch (.125″) away from all edges and folds so that it isn’t distorted or cut off when the box is assembled.
If you are using light or white fonts on a dark background, embolden the font. Inks bleed a bit and the optical illusion of the dark background both make the text appear smaller and can make it “disappear.” The same goes for any intricate line art or fine detailing.
Ensure that all line art is a minimum of 1 pt thickness for best printed results.

If you’re worried your design might not turn out quite right, let us know before you make an order and we’ll review and advise on any possible issues.

How should I set up a design for digital printing onto corrugated material?2019-07-16T09:59:01+00:00

There are a couple of industry-standard recommendations we would make for corrugated materials:

For text:

Choose a font that is 10 points or larger to ensure high-quality results (too small and the words may appear fuzzy).
Choose a thicker or bolder font over a skinny one so that no type gets lost in the printing process.
If you are using light or white fonts on a dark background, embolden the font. Inks bleed a bit and the optical illusion of the dark background both make the text appear smaller and can make it “disappear.” The same applies to any intricate line art or fine detailing.
For line art:

Ensure that all line art is a minimum of 2 pt thickness for best printed results.

If you are a more advanced designer who would like to use a 2D dieline template, our Advanced Artwork Guidelines may also help!

Can I add artwork to a 2D template instead of using the 3D box designer?2019-07-16T09:57:37+00:00

Sure thing. We can create a dieline template for you, totally free, for whatever size you need. Just send us a request!

Is your corrugated board single or double wall?2019-07-17T02:43:08+00:00

Can you print foils, metallics, or white inks?2019-07-17T02:39:53+00:00
What’s the difference between Kraft, Standard White, and Dreamcoat™?2019-07-17T02:30:49+00:00

Kraft (brown) and Standard White both have a natural, matte material feel. Our premium clay-coated Dreamcoat™ material has a smoother soft-touch feel in comparison, as well as a pure white surface for the most vibrant printed color appearance.

Printed areas on all of our material options are cured to a durable satin finish to resist scratches and scuffs in transit. Deep and dark colors produce a high-level of satin, while pastels and lighter colors result in a more subtle satin or nearly-matte effect.

Both Standard White and Dreamcoat™ are white on the inside and outside. Kraft is a natural brown on the inside and outside. All material options are the same weight. We’ve included a few sample images below for quick reference, but if you would like to see more sample images of our materials just let us know! We’d be happy to share what we have in our archives. 🙂

If you would like to receive pre-printed, pre-sized samples to examine each material, along with our print quality and box structure functionality, please submit your request here.

Can you print boxes with a satin-like finish?2019-07-17T02:34:13+00:00

Yes! All of our boxes are currently produced with a satin finish on printed areas, while unprinted areas remain the texture and appearance of the material option you’ve chosen.

If you’re looking for a more traditional “smooth satin” material, our premium clay-coated Dreamcoat™ has a soft-touch feel compared to our more natural Kraft and White material options. The color of our Dreamcoat is also a much brighter white than our standard White material, resulting in a vibrant printed color appearance on the finished box. Deep and dark colors produce a high-level of satin on printed areas, while pastels and lighter colors result in a more subtle satin or nearly-matte effect.

If you would like to receive pre-printed, pre-sized samples to check out these options yourself, you can submit a request here.

What is CMYK and why is it important for printing?2019-07-16T08:03:05+00:00

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta Yellow and Black. These colors are used for generating print outputs.

Before boxes are sent for printing, it is important that the artwork (on illustrator) is converted from RGB to CMYK

Not converting the color mode will result in color variance between what you see on your display compared to the final product

What is SBS?2019-07-17T03:46:25+00:00

What is a dieline and why is it important?2019-07-17T03:44:54+00:00

dieline is the template/outline needed for the design/artwork of the box. It is essential to the cutting and creasing process giving the appropriate information to our machines to precisely cut and fold areas where needed.

How are dimensions measured?2019-07-17T03:43:56+00:00

Generally, measuring a box for packaging is based on the inner dimensions of the structure. This guarantees your product will fit properly within the box regardless of stock thickness.
If you are looking to duplicate a box and provide outer dimensions, please inform a product specialist.
